Your guide to the best cafes in town

Excellent cafes in Warsaw offer their customers relaxation, a break from everyday life, as well as pleasant and sophisticated services, dishes, and drinks. Places that impress us not only with their decor, but also often with their involvement in the current social life and eco-friendly approach spring up like mushrooms around the city.

The aroma of coffee in the air, tempting desserts and other snacks, and the unique vibe of good cafes makes us want to keep coming back as often as possible. Many coffee lovers simply can't imagine a day without stopping by their favourite cozy cafe.

Find the right cafe for yourself in Warsaw

The choice of a spot depends on the nature of our outing, whether we're preparing for a date, meeting a friend, going out alone for a good coffee and dessert, or going to work. Traditional cafes are a must when we're in the capital for the first time, as they tell a lot about the history and people of old Warsaw.

You'll find a different vibe by heading to newly established hipster places that are specialised in trendy coffee brewing techniques or in promoting zero waste philosophy, or providing shelter for the lovebirds or the busy folks, who eagerly lean over their projects, opening their laptops in the buzz of the cafe.

We have prepared suggestions for each of these occasions, from traditional cafes to those with a more original profile and specificity. Here are the best cafes in Warsaw.

Być Może

This French-Italian-Polish cafe combined with a bistro and a mini store is a temple of taste in both meanings of the word: food and aesthetics. Since 2013, the first location, now a mini-chain, has been established at Plac Unii Lubelskiej. For ten years, it has been a solid point on the gastronomic map of the capital, very popular among Warsaw residents. "Być może" is full of captivating scents emanating from each of the three cafes in Warsaw as soon as you enter. Equally impressive are the appearances of the swollen, huge yeast cakes and babkas, offered with or without filling, sprinkled with delicious coarse crumble. Paired with the excellent local coffee, it's the perfect breakfast to indulge in at any time of the year. You can also satisfy your hunger here during lunchtime. There is plenty to choose from on the savory menu with soups, sandwiches, salads, which will satisfy all tastes, including options for vegetarians.

Regulars and frequent visitors to the venue on Bagatela Street have become accustomed to the slightly loft-style of space construction, where wooden finishes blend perfectly with countertops filled with golden pastries. How positively surprising it was to discover a new proposal in Powiśle and Lwowska, where the interiors underwent a radical but delightful transformation. Both spaces are brightened, almost looking sterile due to the white and blue omnipresent tiles and meticulous woodwork. Everything here is reminiscent of milk, cream, flour, and butter.

Café Bristol

Café Bristol is undoubtedly one of the most elegant cafes in Warsaw. If you're in the mood for luxury combined with history and a brilliant menu, you should visit this place. It is located in the oldest hotel in Warsaw, currently part of "The Luxury Collection" network. It's worth noting the aesthetic qualities of Hotel Bristol, which is an architectural gem on Krakowskie Przedmieście. The interiors are beautiful and comfortable, maintaining the style of Warsaw's past elegance.

Café Bristol attracts guests thanks to its numerous virtues. Warsaw residents and tourists also have access to an intimate garden. Many elements here contribute to the feeling of luxury, yet uniqueness of this place. Café Bristol has been renowned for its excellent cuisine for years. Here you can eat both sweet and savory dishes, and the menu includes breakfast and lunch options as well as desserts, surprisingly rich and based on Polish cuisine enriched with international elements. Among the dishes, you'll find veal schnitzel, green asparagus, or beef tartare served with pickles, fries, and French mustard. We recommend trying the Garganelli pasta - a poetry of taste and sophistication. Café Bristol is also worth visiting for breakfast. Great and healthy smoothies or granola, or the Croque Madame sandwich, are waiting for you here to welcome the new day in the most delicious way.

Relaks

In search of relaxation and pleasure, unquestionably direct your steps to the Relax cafe. In the atmosphere of chatter and the buzz of café conversations, mingling with the sound of porcelain cups, surrounded by the scent of freshly prepared good coffee, munching on fresh cookies, cakes, or croissants, you can settle into very comfortable vintage armchairs or wooden benches, open your laptop, and without losing touch with the climate of Mokotów, start your daily work or simply relax.

This atmospheric cafe gains a unique charm, especially on winter mornings when you can observe snow-covered neighbouring townhouses through large windows. In the summer, it's nice to sit outside in the charmingly arranged garden. The peaceful atmosphere of Mokotów surrounding the café on the friendly Dąbrowskiego Street near the square and neighbouring iconic restaurants and bars gives a sense of being in the heart of the capital, albeit not the one that is drowned out by rush and noise... Everything in Relax reflects its name, with its unpretentious and cozy interior, providing simple and tasty drinks and sweets, and excellent coffee. You feel like sitting here and reading the newspaper, working, or chatting with friends. Hats off to the founders who have maintained an atmosphere of leisure here for years.

Stor

Stor, established in 2014 and now a cult favourite, is a cozy coffee house in Powiśle. It's so beautifully designed, though sparingly and cohesively, that simply being in this interior is a pleasure in itself. It has a touch of Parisian or London cafés due to its elegant simplicity. You can sit inside or take your coffee outside and sit on a bench.

The founders opted to serve only the best coffee beans from a local roastery. They offer pour-over coffees obtained through alternative brewing methods using drips, AeroPress, and Chemex. Pour-over coffees will particularly appeal to those who prefer a milder drink than espresso. At Stor, you'll also taste good cakes and desserts, as well as matcha lattes and kombuchas.

An immensely important part of Stor's operation is its commitment to zero waste. The owners also support other cafes in Warsaw in implementing this concept. All activities of the two Stor locations today operate with the utmost care for environmental protection. As they proclaim themselves - they are leading a green revolution in cafés. They've created a roastery that reduces carbon footprint by using only electric vehicles for deliveries, compostable packaging and labels for coffee, and products for offices and cafés delivered in rotational Coffee Vac packaging. Come here! It's pleasant, trendy, and mindful!

Hałas Café

Don't come here with your mom! It's not sweet here; the creators have developed their own distinct style. This is a place for those who love slightly subcultural atmospheres, with simple decor, without unnecessary ornamentation, but with character. This simplicity is the hallmark of the type of clientele the owners are targeting. Guests of this small tavern, located in the basement of one of the beautiful buildings of Saska Kępa, spend their time either in the comfortable room at a table sipping good coffee and working on their laptops, or in the small outdoor garden on a bench, admiring the charm of the surrounding district. Young and old, but free-spirited, will feel this place as a pleasant refuge, an alternative to working at home, a place for coffee conversation among a friendly circle of friends. In the sweet-and-savory menu, there are sandwiches, cookies, and cakes. In Hałas Café, coffee is prepared both in an espresso machine and in currently trendy drip or AeroPress methods, i.e., by pour-over.

You can also purchase vinyl records and listen to music. Especially for customers, the founders created a record shop where you can find interesting selections of electronic and alternative rock music. Come here to relax, cool down, sit down, to be uplifted by music, to find relaxation among the greenery of Saska Kępa away from the hustle and bustle of Francuska Street. Don't forget about a good pour-over at the bar, it's so aromatic!

Roślina Cafe

You're in the capital of your country, a big metropolis, you like being here, its hustle and bustle is your everyday companion, you consider it your "brother", but there come moments when you dream of escaping and want to get away from it... In such moments, leave it all behind and head to Bielany! There, you'll find the tranquility of old suburbs, amidst small stylish streets and low-rise buildings, you'll feel like you're in a completely different city. It's like being on a mini vacation! That's where it's worth going to find yourself on Schraegera Street, in the charming Roślina Cafe.

The name obliges so in the menu, you'll find plenty of vegan and vegetarian products, but their variety, nutritional value, and fun presentation style will satisfy all customers. You don't have to be vegan to eat to your heart's content here. Try the local soup or sandwiches with veggie mackerel or veggie salmon. For fans of vegetarian cuisine, they offer a wide selection of salads with cheeses and vegetables as well as scrambled eggs. You can sit in front of the entrance, on the tiny street, on the gathered seats and loungers, or take a table in the lovely garden arranged on the side of the coffee house. It's very easy to settle in here, and then it's hard to return to the centre. The place encourages leisurely conversation and peaceful dining. Escape from the hustle and bustle of the capital to return relaxed and soothed. Enjoy your meal!
