Seemingly everyone knows what dancing is. According to the generally accepted definition, dance is an organised rhythmic movement of the body, usually accompanied by music. However, it is difficult to define when a dance is an art and when it is not. Does it have to follow a certain convention, tell a story, or is it enough to improvise on a certain theme or without a theme. Where do we place folk, ballroom or religious dances in this systematic? Seemingly intuitively, we can tell the difference, but consciously or not, we are increasingly blurring the boundaries between, because whether, for example, the movements of a performer are already dance, or whether stillness is a negation of dance or its natural consequence. Artists practising various transgressions, concepts and investigations of the body are turning their backs on the basic definition of dance that we gave in the introduction. Our show 'Back to dance' is an attempt to test whether it is still valid and whether it can be useful in the preparation of a performance that aims to express the emotions of its creators and performers.
