After a sold-out show in Poznań, noisepop group Xiu Xiu will return to our country next year for 2 shows. As part of the tour promoting their latest album '13' Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto with Bison Horn Grips', the Americans will play in Warsaw's Hydrozagadka on 20 February and a day later in Wrocław's Łącznik, accompanied at both concerts by Kee Avil.
Founded in 2002 by Jamie Stewart, Xiu Xiu has developed a cult following over the past two decades, and its albums have been praised in magazines such as The New Yorker, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, The Guardian, NME and many others. This should come as no surprise, as Xiu Xiu is the epitome of an extremely experimental band - from the very beginning, the group has followed its own eclectic path, where inspirations from Nina Simeone, Krzysztof Penderecki, The Birthday Party or Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark meet the furthest reaches of the musicians' imagination. Around Stewart, the natural core, a number of musicians have passed through the band's line-up (including Thor Harris and Christopher Pravdica from Swans), and since 2009 multi-instrumentalist Angela Seo has also been a permanent fixture.
Both evenings will be opened by Canadian artist Kee Avil. The producer's work uses elements of avant-pop, glitch, post-industrial and an experimental-folk sensibility to create deconstructed tracks based on vocals, guitar and electronics. Her latest album, 'Spine', was released in May this year under the Constellation label, and early next year Kee Avil will embark on a European tour alongside Xiu Xiu!
