Join us for a guided tour of the new exhibition 'Still Life' by art group Other Society at the Art Walk gallery.
The exhibition is curated by group member, artist Agata Groszek.
The objects in the exhibition were born out of human need, but many of the objects they were made from were spawned not so much by need as by compulsive desire. They sublimate a drive that manifests itself in both the overproduction and over-collecting of junk trophies. Their longevity exceeds the average human lifespan, so why not compile art from them? Perhaps beauty fished out of the pile of everyday life is already that declining manifestation of tenderness in which the human eye is trained. The matter from which still life is born is rich and varied, and has traditionally been integrated by the medium of proper recording, such as painting. In this exhibition, it becomes a work of art itself (...).
