The scandalising writer and painter Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz is trying to escape from the capital city engulfed in war fever. He is pursued by his own fears and the shadows of his mistresses, whom he seduced and abandoned, idolised and rejected, painted and betrayed. Irena, Jadwiga, Nina, Lilka, Czesia and Maria return, as the conscious protagonists of a sensual story, to settle accounts with the myth of the brilliant artist years later. They draw the viewer into a world full of love, fear, betrayal and art.
The performance will take you back in time and space to interwar Warsaw, enjoying its freedom, cabarets and vaudevilles, which are brutally interrupted by the outbreak of war.
'Witkacy. Vaudeville on the Edge' is a musical expedition into the phantasmagorical realm of one of the most intriguing artists of the 20th century. It is also a tribute to extraordinary women and an era that sought in art a cure for end-of-the-world fears. It is also one of two - along with Leopold Tyrmand's "Wicked" - musical performances prepared for the 50th anniversary of the Rampa Theatre in Targówek.
