On Saturday, 24 May 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at the OSiR Ursus stadium at 3 Sosnkowskiego Street in Warsaw, a ceremony will take place that will go down in the history of the capital district for a long time. The sports facility will officially take the name of Krzysztof Nowak - an outstanding footballer, RKS Ursus alumni and VfL Wolfsburg legend.
Programme of the ceremony:
- 11:00-12:30 - Official part: reminiscences of Krzysztof Nowak, naming of the stadium and unveiling of a commemorative plaque,
- 12:30-13:30 - Exhibition match: RKS All Stars versus the Journalists' National Team,
- 13:30-14:00 - Prize draw for supporters.
Who was Krzysztof Nowak?
Krzysztof Nowak (1975-2005) is a footballer who started out at RKS Ursus, then went on to play for Legia Warsaw, Panachaiki (Greece), Atlético Paranaense (Brazil) and VfL Wolfsburg, where he remains an icon to this day. He played 10 matches for the Polish national team. He died young, at the age of just 29, after a battle with the incurable disease ALS. His story touched thousands of fans around the world.
