"Retro Warsaw" is a unique journey back in time to the pre-World War II capital - a city full of contrasts, energy and multicultural colour.
Thanks to state-of-the-art technologies for the reconstruction and colouring of archival materials, as well as a unique system of immersive projections, the black-and-white Warsaw of photographs and films has been given new life. The exhibition was prepared by varsavians and specialists in history, education and art, and its soundtrack was created by Jan Młynarski - a musician, enthusiast and researcher of Warsaw's sounds, who captured the spirit of the city of those times.
Visitors are transported to the very heart of everyday life in the 1920s and 1930s - watching the digitally animated world of pre-war Warsaw. Archival photographs and films reconstructed in 4K show cobbled streets full of horse-drawn carriages, elegant townhouses, iconic buildings such as the Prudential and PASTA, and colourful characters from Warsaw's folklore. Walking through the exhibition zones, participants discover pre-war life at the rhythm of an ordinary day. We will see the everyday life of the city: street scenes, architecture, inhabitants of different faiths and professions, as well as places that today only exist in photographs.
"Retro Warsaw" is not only a spectacular tale of the past, but also a unique lesson in history and identity - for residents, tourists, students and city enthusiasts.
We invite you to take a journey to the capital of a century ago, surrounded by sounds and images that will touch all the senses.
The exhibition can be seen from 15 June to 14 September on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays - only at the Art Box Experience.
