The M.A. Antonina Leśniewska Museum of Pharmacy was established in 1985, and since 2002 it has been a branch of the Museum of Warsaw. The first premises of the Museum were located at 72 Marszałkowska Street, and the location determined the naming of the Museum after mgr farm. Antonina Leśniewska. She had owned a pharmacy at this address since 1933, and was famous for opening the world's first pharmacy in St Petersburg in 1901, employing only women.
The permanent exhibition 'Res pharmaceuticae' at the Antonina Leśniewska Museum of Pharmacy is a further step towards the dissemination of knowledge on the history of pharmacy. Thematic exhibitions: Officina sanitatis, Materia medica, Colour and cut, Forum magister Antonina Lesniewska, Kampo medicines in Japanese tradition, are aimed both at those who want to expand their knowledge and those who come to spend an interesting time.
In the museum, visitors can see the reconstructed interior of a pharmacy from the interwar period, learn about the history of the most important groups of medicines and those belonging to the Japanese tradition. In the next room, the beauty of the pharmacy glassware will surprise the viewer with its variety of colours and shapes, and the open pharmaceutical library invites visitors to make use of it on site.
