The story of Pinocchio - a wooden puppet that comes to life - is familiar to every child. The creator of this character was Carlo Collodi, but it is worth noting that every era has its own version of the story. Wajnberg's ballet is based on a reworking of the original novel - a book entitled Buratino written by Alexei Tolstoy, a distant cousin of the famous writer, who used Collodi extensively, but allowed himself quite far-reaching plot deviations.
