Othello and Jago - Shakespeare in the Masks of Korea / 25th Musical Gardens Festival

Othello and Jago - Shakespeare in the Masks of Korea (collaboration with the Korean Cultural Center).
Performers:
- The Greatest Mask,
- Huh Chang-Yeol - Artistic Director.

Talchum is a traditional Korean performing art that combines theatre, dance and music. Its hallmarks are masked actors and a lively, rhythmic musical setting performed by an ensemble of instrumentalists. Talchum performances comment on social reality in a humorous and perceptive way, criticising inequalities, stereotypes and hierarchies - and the audience is actively involved in the performance through shouts and reactions.

Othello and Jago is an extraordinary adaptation of a Shakespearean tragedy transferred into the world of Korean mask theatre. The Greatest Mask group has succeeded in combining the depth of drama with a traditional form of artistic expression, creating a work of great expressive power and extraordinary visual charm.

The show won Best Dance Performance at the prestigious 11th Edaily Culture Awards in 2024.

Join us for a unique encounter with the Korean stage tradition and the timeless power of William Shakespeare's stories.
