Tribute to Cesaria Evora returns! The biggest stars of Cape Verdean music: Elida Almeida, Lucibela, Ceuzany Pires and Teofilo Chantre, will perform again on 19 May in Warsaw at a unique concert, during which we will hear the most beautiful songs of the "Boson-legged Diva" in completely new arrangements. It will be an unforgettable musical experience!
"Cesaria Evora, the legendary 'Boson-legged Diva', an iconic figure for Cape Verdean music - more than that, for World Music - passed away in 2011. In Siesta on the Road, we want to revisit a memorable evening in Lisbon's Coliseu the following June, when the greatest artists from the Happy Islands paid tribute to their Teacher.
We will hear Cesaria Evora's most famous songs in surprising, fresh interpretations. This will be one of the most beautiful evenings next spring. To be remembered for a lifetime." - Marcin Kydrynski
ELIDA ALMEIDA
She is probably the most creative Cape Verdean artist today. And possibly the one with the strongest energy. It's not just her concerts that are like a perpetual carnival, as if each one were to be the last. With unflagging energy, Elida also writes new songs for herself and friends, appears in many special projects, enjoys singing duets and is perpetually on the move. She has just released her fifth album, Di lonji (From Afar), once again infused with 'happy music' of great beauty and sophistication.
LUCIBELA
To say that she is perhaps the closest to the legendary Cesaria, however, is to hurt this young artist a little. Her voice, with its rare nobility, wide range and depth of expression, is perfectly her own. Although, on the other hand, there is a lot of truth in this comparison. Lucibela, born in the infamous Tarrafal, where the Salazar regime imprisoned oppositionists, and raised in the Islands, sings traditional music. While Sara Tavares, Mayra Andrade or Dino di Santiago flirt with club rhythms - Lucibela, like Wynton Marsalis in jazz, cares about the survival of the sources.
THEOPHILO CHANTRE
Songwriter, composer, producer, magician. His visit to our country was repeatedly preceded by his songs. The first to bring them to Poland was Cesaria Evora. Also her duet with Kayah was a song by this great bard from the Islands. After that, his compositions were sung by almost all of the Siesta Cabowerdian guests. Since 1993, when the album Terra & Cretcheu was released, he has been recording albums of his own, while at the same time extensively supporting friendly artists as producer and songwriter. N.p. Nancy Vieira's album, Manha Florida is very much his work. A distinctive, unmistakable yearning, gentle voice.
CEUZANY PIRES
She is an extraordinary vocalist from Cape Verde who perfectly blends traditional sounds with modern pop and funk. Her musical adventure began at the age of 12, when she won recognition in local choir competitions before joining the band Eclipse. After triumphing in a vocal competition on the island of Fogo in 2008, she joined the band Cordas do Sol, giving it a new energy and dynamic. Her solo career began in 2012, when she released the album 'Nha Vida', followed by her follow-up album 'Ilha D'Melodia' in 2015, highlighting her unique talent and vocal power.
SIESTA on the move
The idea behind SISTA on the road is to present live artists known from Marcin Kydrynski's Pora Siesty (Siesta Time) Sunday broadcasts and from the bestselling Siesta compilations (already the 20th edition has been published).
