LUKE SITAL-SINGH
British singer, songwriter and producer Luke Sital-Singh has announced his new album, Fool's Spring, which will be released on 21 February 2025. Alongside this news, the artist has shared his latest single, 'Santa Fe', a rich and pictorial duet with acclaimed Irish artist Lisa Hannigan.
"Fool's Spring" is a self-produced collection of 11 tracks that moves between a style described as "sad ABBA" and yacht rock. It is Sital-Singha's most musically eclectic album to date, with the songs telling the story of his difficult personal journey over the past few years, full of ups and downs. The album's title alludes to this emotional rollercoaster - the promise of spring to come, the hope after which winter returns. "The poetic nature of thinking that a dark time is coming to an end, only for it to return," says Sital-Singh, "is something that resonates with the theme of the new album."
The artist added: "This album was made at the most difficult time of my life, when my wife and I were struggling with trying to start a family. Now, as I announce the release of the album, my son lies in my arms. I feel the weight of how much life has changed - these songs, written before this turning point, now take on a new meaning in a completely different world. Most of the lyrics don't speak directly about our pain, but it's a bit like looking at the eclipse through a homemade filter. I couldn't face it directly, and yet it filled my world, casting a shadow over every note and shaping the songs in ways I'm only beginning to understand."
The album was heralded by the dynamic soft-rock anthem 'Hold The Lightning', written in collaboration with up-and-coming songwriter and producer Jack Hardman, which Sital-Singh calls the 'anchor of the album'. Subsequent tracks included the warm, enveloping 'Firefight' and the subtly experimental 'Saint & Thief'.
The latest single, 'Santa Fe', is a broad, imagery-laden ballad inspired by the realisation that their time on the west coast of the US - where Sital-Singh and his wife lived for five years - is coming to an end, and they will have to return to the UK to continue their efforts to expand their family.
"I remember almost crying when I wrote that song," he recalls. "Everything was starting to overwhelm me. It was about dreaming about Los Angeles and saying goodbye to it. The verses are images of what we were doing - in Yosemite, on the beach, walking down our street. All these quite specific images, street names and places. It is," he admits, "a song full of resignation."
These new songs follow the release of his acclaimed 2022 album Dressing Like A Stranger, which Sital-Singh wrote while moving from London to Los Angeles just before the pandemic. The album, which marked his debut on the Nettwerk label, featured 11 tracks, including the duet with Christina Perri 'Rather Be', the reflection on faith 'Me & God' and the optimistic 'Summer Somewhere'. The album has over 10 million plays on Spotify and has garnered praise from NPR Music, Forbes, No Depression and others.
In 2023, the artist released a minimalist EP, Strange Weather, described by Glide as "simple, sweet and focused on paying homage to the song," and by American Pancake as "pure beauty."
