The mythical capital of the world, or a land of great contrasts where a Wall Street broker passes by a homeless person living on the street every day? New York never ceases to fascinate and attract us with its magnetic force. So it's time to take a backpack and dive into the streets of the concrete jungle, explore new territories and discover the secrets of the "Big Apple". And this is exactly what the author of the lecture - an experienced traveller and cultural expert - does, trekking over one hundred and fifty kilometres on foot through the streets of New York. Add to this numerous rides on the gigantic underground system and ferries connecting Manhattan with other parts of New York and you will gain perspective and get to know this great metropolis in an exhaustive way.
During the lecture, we will visit Brooklyn and see the beautiful historic townhouses with their characteristic steps and, of course, cross the famous Brooklyn Bridge. We will take a look at the Polish district of Greenpoint. We will take the ferry to Staten Island, in the same way we will visit the famous Statue of Liberty. In the Bronx, we will look for the historic home of the famous writer Edgar Allan Poe. However, we will experience the most in Manhattan, the heart of New York. We will, of course, go for a big walk in the vast and extremely intriguing Central Park, which is like a fairy-tale forest in the centre of the mighty metropolis. We'll take a look at Wall Street and the beautiful Trinity Church. A moment of reflection will await us at the site of the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, where today, on the site where the twin towers of the World Trade Center stood, there is an important memorial. We will take a stroll along Fifth Avenue, where we can take a look at expensive boutiques and Trump Tower, the home of the US President. We will see the bustling Times Square, which is vibrant by day and night. We'll take a look at the legendary Grand Central Station and Rockefeller Center, where we'll ascend to one of the highest vantage points in the city to see New York from above! We'll also stop by the famous MOMA Museum of Modern Art, where we'll look for paintings by Van Gogh and Frida Kahlo, and go to the brilliant Museum of Natural History, with its amazing dioramas that are like windows into other dimensions, and see the skeletons of giant dinosaurs in extraordinary displays. We'll also consider where to eat in New York so you don't ruin your budget!
