Without waiting for the arrival of more favourable travel circumstances, hiking enthusiast Kasia Augustyn set off alone to the far north to walk 460 kilometres on the Kungsleden trail with equipment to ensure her self-sufficiency.
"The Royal Route" lies 2/3 behind the Arctic Circle, in Swedish Lapland, and is the quintessential wilderness, untouched by human intervention. The rugged but extremely picturesque landscape here changes as quickly as the weather conditions: snow-capped mountains, glacial valleys, vast forests and wetlands. The logistics involved in the obligatory crossings of several rivers and lakes and the possibility of carefree camping under the clouds add an extra spice to the route. This is the story of Lapland, its people, the tundra, a polar day, a solitary encounter with nature and the not easy road to the fulfilment of a travel dream, which began long before the first step was taken on the trail.
