Group I 14.30-16.00, Group II 16.00-17.30.
In the 12th edition of the lecture series of our course, we invite you to another, as usual different, look at the history of art. This time, the focus will be on the human being - artists and artists, but also their models. We will look at the best and most interesting portraits created from the Renaissance to the present day. It will be an opportunity to analyse the work of famous artists such as Édouard Manet, Edgar Degas or Pablo Picasso in a new way. We will reach for self-portraits, through which we will get to know all the faces of Rembrandt, Vincent van Gogh and Lucian Freud. The self-portraits will allow us to see that there were many more women artists in past art than we think. Portraiture is also a subject that shows social changes well (e.g. during the Enlightenment or the interwar period) and illustrates history (the Medici in Italy, Stanislaw Augustus in Poland, Philip IV in Spain). During this year's course, you will have the opportunity to become better acquainted with popular and well-liked artists (Paul Gauguin, Gustav Klimt, August Rodin), but also to look into lesser-known chapters of art history (John Singer Sargent, Neo-Impressionism, New Objectivity). Anyone new to art is welcome on our course, but there will be plenty of material for those who want to deepen their knowledge.
