hoshii - HER NAME WAS YUMI / concert

hoshii (which means to desire in Japanese) is the project of saxophonist and producer Kuba Wiecek, who returns to the jazz scene with new ideas that he has gathered over the last few years while working with many artists from the hip-hop and alternative scene. The music played by the hoshii band is actually beats created by Kuba, which have then been arranged for a jazz quartet and later produced in a way that aims to redefine the sound of contemporary jazz. The band also includes pianist Grzegorz Tarwid, with whom Kuba studied in Copenhagen, Max Mucha, a bassist known for his work with Christian Scott, among others, and drummer Miłosz Berdzik, a graduate of Berklee College of Music.
The context for the music is the story of a being (her name is hoshii) from a planet called versus, several galaxies away from Earth. Hoshii, bored with her perfect and predictable life, sets out on a journey to experience something new and thus appears on Earth. Among humans, she initially faces rejection, but over time the situation changes and the creature begins to gain in the eyes of her new surroundings.
May marks the release of the project's second album, HER NAME WAS YUMI, which tells the story of the further adventures of hoshii and the equally mysterious character yumi. In Jassmine, the material will resound in its entirety for the first time at a special premiere concert.
