What will happen when two individuals, representatives of different generations, two artistic souls strongly connected by their love for life and appetite for experiencing it, stand on their own path? Jacek Cygan and Marcin Januszkiewicz have found the answer.
Jacek Cygan, born 1950, generation Baby Boomers. Marcin Januszkiewicz, born 1987, generation Y. Seemingly they have nothing in common. Yet they are close to each other thanks to their sensitivity to the world, other people and language. This understanding gave birth to the idea of telling a story, through the songs of Jacek Cygan - lyricist, poet, playwright, translator and screenwriter - about Generation Y, represented by Marcin Januszkiewicz - dramatic and musical actor, singer, songwriter.
The starting point for the music and multimedia show 'Generation Y' is a wealth of Jack Cygan's hits from the 1980s and 1990s, i.e. when Marcin Januszkiewicz was growing up and young. Both artists want to take a look at Generation Y, the popular millenials, and attempt to tell the story of those for whom 'to have' is not as important as 'to be', who have begun to treat work as a means to an end rather than an end in itself, and for whom fulfilling their own dreams has become an important point of generational identity.
It is well known that Marcin Januszkiewicz is difficult to pigeonhole. He consistently escapes all categories, which he proved with such projects as "Osiecka po męsku", "Perfect Lady Pank" and his own compositions on the EP "Wolny Spokój". 'Pokolenie Y' only confirms this. Unlike previous artistic activities, the visual layer of the show created by Ola Knedler plays a huge role here. Its aim is to experience the works of Jacek Cygan anew - not only by ear, but also by sight, to experience the presented story in different ways.
Ola Knedler's vision takes the viewer on a surreal journey. The successive visualisations express the inner perception of a human being, escaping logic, wrapping them in elusive sensations. They are an attempt to portray the condition of Everyman - a representative of the millenials - and to talk about the apparent repetitiveness of generational experiences. In order to fully comprehend this, it is necessary to know that time in Everyman's world is a universal but also an indefinable entity. Time in Everyman's world is characterised by a softness, non-obviousness and fluidity perfectly familiar from Salvador Dali's work. As a result, it opens the door to new interpretations and a fuller experience of emotion.
The musical layer of 'Generation Y', created under the watchful eye of Jack Kita, can also surprise. It definitely draws on a variety of musical genres and freely balances between electronics, modern sounds and the classic form of poetic song. During the concert, we will hear Jacek Cygan's greatest hits such as "Pokolenie", "Czas nas uczy poody", "Let's drink for mistakes", "Wszystko ma swój czas" or "C'est la vie - Paryż z pocztówki", as well as new songs written by Jacek Cygan especially for Marcin Januszkiewicz.
Classic lyrics, dreamy and daring arrangements and surreal visions make us think about what the Y generation will leave, or has already left, in the pages of history. What do we gain from them, what do we lose? These are the questions that make this concert an offer for everyone, whether they are already familiar with Jacek Cygan's songs or are just getting to know them.
The concert is intended for audiences aged 16 and over.
Strobe lights are used during the event.
