The history of Poland's best-known poetic group Skamander is inseparable from the history of Polish independence. 2019 marks the centenary of the group's founding and the anniversaries of its members: 125th anniversary of birth and 50th anniversary of death of Kazimierz Wierzyński, 125th anniversary of birth of Julian Tuwim and 66th anniversary of his death, 120th anniversary of birth and 63rd anniversary of death of Jan Lechoń, 124th anniversary of birth and 43rd anniversary of death of Antoni Słonimski, 125th anniversary of birth and 39th anniversary of death of Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz. Ninety-five years ago, on 6 January 1924, the first issue of the flagship literary magazine of interwar Poland, Wiadomości Literackie, was published. These events gave rise to the idea of preparing an exhibition devoted to one of the most outstanding Polish poets of the 20th century - Kazimierz Wierzyński, with the Skamander poetic group, to which he belonged and with which he shaped the interwar poetic scene, in the background.
