"Sound Zone" is the first part of the permanent exhibition being realised at the new headquarters of the Asia-Pacific Museum. The exhibition presents around 120 musical instruments from different cultural areas and countries. These range from simply constructed instruments played by amateurs to true works of art used by professional musicians at the courts of rulers. The cultural context and their functions will be presented through a variety of multimedia. They provide an opportunity to explore both the traditional role of the instrument and the contemporary transformations taking place in the sphere of music under the influence of the intermingling of different cultures.

Visitors can not only view the beautiful objects in the museum's collection, but also listen to the sound of selected instruments, watch films demonstrating playing techniques and see contemporary and historical photographic documentation of musical traditions. For those wishing to test their own musical skills, there is the opportunity to try out several traditional instruments.
