They fascinate, entertain, help, sometimes cause anxiety and even fear. Their creators were inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's sketches and the first walking machines, built by Nikola Tesla among others. Since the beginning of the 20th century, we have been constructing ever more technologically advanced robots. The latest ones help perform tasks that require great precision, replace us in potentially dangerous situations for humans, and can be our eyes and ears in inaccessible places. Robots connected to artificial intelligence language models provide us with encyclopaedic knowledge, relieve us of complex calculations and simulations. They know how to do more and more every year. They are a tangible sign of a future that begins today.
Meet the robotic family of the Copernicus Science Centre! Its youngest member was created in 2023 and the oldest in 2010. Every visitor has the opportunity to experience the latest technological developments and interact with them in person. See how the designs and capabilities of these (mostly humanoid) machines have evolved. How will you feel when interacting with them? Do you know what the uncanny valley effect is? Your own reaction may surprise you! You have the opportunity to see for yourself and test robots that you have so far only known from films on the Internet, television and newspaper articles. It is worth taking advantage of it.
