Sylwia Formella is a Gdansk-based photographer who occasionally likes to feel like a visitor to her own city. She photographs intuitively. She is attracted to mystery, detail and intriguing stories. For several years now, she has been photographing mainly cultural events: vernissages, exhibitions, intimate concerts and author meetings. In 2023, she took part in Erazm Wojciech Felcyn's art project 'PEOPLE OF ART', realised within the framework of a scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. She enjoys photographing art events. Photographing women and men fascinates her. Architecture and urban spaces are a way to relax when Shinrin-Yoku has to wait.
A few words from exhibition curator Krzysztof Cywiński:
"In the lens of Sylvia's camera, almost everything becomes a mystery. Photographs in black and white, an indecipherable elegance, a mystique for sensitive beings and a depth that few see. The subject is not really important, because for a seasoned photographer like Sylwia, anything can become one. An overturned watering can, a torn fabric, a fragment of a wall, a staircase touched by a glow - details so often overlooked, become meaningful in her photographs. She shares her sensitivity and sense of observation with the viewer. Like a perfect painter, she discreetly opens the door to her artistic visions. Here is the Princess of Darkness, the sensitive light-hunter Sylwia Formella".
Opening: 11 April, 6 pm
The exhibition is open until 25 April.
