Miriam Tajcher was born in 1984 in Warsaw as Małgosia Malinowska. She studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan. In 2009, she received her Master of Arts degree and the prize of Professor Józef Szajna. In 2010, she took the Art & Design course at Central Saint Martins College in London. Thanks to a scholarship at The National Academy School in New York, she travelled to the USA, where she completed The Studio Art Intensive Program. She won a residency at La Napoule Art Foundation in France. She has held numerous solo and group exhibitions in Europe and overseas. She was a participant in the famous Creative Mischief exhibition series at The National Academy Museum in New York. Her paintings are in private collections in New York, San Paulo, Canberra, London, Milan, Brussels, Warsaw and many others.

The artist about the exhibition:
"The common theme of my paintings is time. Time is my obsession and its passage causes me psychological pain. I find solace in capturing it on canvas. I try to do this in two ways.
Firstly, by choosing subjects that are linked to events in time, and secondly, by generating memories during the creative process. You could say that I measure the passage of my life through my paintings, and each successive project is a record of the stage I am at. Another characteristic of my works is that I paint people. Sometimes they are portraits of real people, but mostly they are imaginary figures, creations of my mind that demand to be brought to life.
I work slowly and in solitude. By painting, I begin to create a relationship with the characters on the canvas. I believe that the more hours I devote to them, the more strongly they seem to take on a human identity. I like bold forms and intense colours. I arrange my characters so that they dominate the canvas, often scaled up to enhance their presence. Although the whole painting is important to me, it is the human figure that takes centre stage. Everything else plays a decorative or symbolic role.
I call my style 'Personal Realism'. I aim to reflect reality to some extent, but filtered through my own vision and sensibility." ~Miriam Tajcher
