Exhibition "Me one of many" by Andrzej Wróblewski

Andrzej Wróblewski. I am one of many is an exhibition that follows the success of the Venice presentation entitled In the First Person, which has already gained international recognition. This time, the work of an artist who defined a generation is brought to Warsaw and Polish audiences in a new guise. As a witness to history, from an innocent boy to an intellectual consciously shaping his time, Andrzej Wróblewski created works that had a clear impact on the following decades of Polish art.

Andrzej Wróblewski's paintings, from the poignant 'Shootings', through his formally unique modern realism, to his final, pre-mortem works, full of symbolism and steeped in existential tension, remain ever relevant. The exhibition in Warsaw highlights the artist's role as a signpost in difficult, complicated times. His vision - combining personal experience, symbolism and commitment - becomes a testimony and commentary on the present, inspiring successive generations. The exhibition Me One of Many is a tribute to a young artist whose message continues to move and remain relevant.

Andrzej Wróblewski's paintings are presented in dialogue with the poetry of Tadeusz Różewicz (1921-2014), whose work, set in the realities of the 1950s, inspired the painter. Różewicz's poetic sensibility, deeply rooted in wartime and post-war experiences, harmonises with the intensity and existential message of Wróblewski's work. In addition to their close acquaintance, the two artists shared a kindred reflection on moral anxiety and an attempt to capture a shattered world in the process of reconstruction.

Anna and Jerzy Starak are the owners of one of the most important collections of Polish contemporary art in the country. For more than 15 years, as patrons, they have actively supported cultural institutions and significant events. For more than 10 years, as part of the Spectra Art Space activities of the Starak Family Foundation, they have been patronising the exhibition programme at the foundation's Warsaw headquarters at 6 Bobrowiecka St. Since 2017, the Starak Family Foundation has regularly organised exhibitions of Polish art as part of La Biennale di Venezia. Andrzej Wróblewski's exhibition was the fourth exhibition of Polish art organised through the efforts of the Starak Family Foundation in Venice and the third, following Ryszard Winiarski's solo exhibitions in 2017 and Ewa Kuryluk's in 2022, to be given the title of official event accompanying the Biennale Arte.
In June 2024, in recognition of their contribution to strengthening and shaping the international presence of Polish art, significant cultural patronage and support for young female and male artists, Anna Woźniak-Starak and Jerzy Starak were honoured by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Hanna Wróblewska, with the 'Gloria Artis' Gold Medals for Merit to Culture.
The Starak Collection currently houses the most numerous representation of Andrzej Wróblewski's works in Poland.
