"Stanislaus Augustus was attached to the Baths more than to any of his artistic creations: but because he also put the most initiative, taste and work into them". - wrote Władysław Tatarkiewicz about this residence closest to the king's heart, which, decorated and embellished throughout his reign, is today perhaps the most complete testimony to his knowledge, taste and the services he rendered to the development of the culture of the Republic of Poland in the age of the Enlightenment. It is a paradox of history that the Royal Baths gained its final shape after the dissolution of the Republic, the abdication of the monarch and his departure for Grodno in 1795.
