The 'Matter of the Earth' exhibition presents almost 550 minerals and rocks from around the world that make up the lithosphere - the outer shell of our planet. The exhibition provides basic information about minerals: crystallographic systems and the most important properties important for their identification are described. The different clusters (classes) of minerals belonging to a systematics based on composition are discussed....
The second part of the exhibition presents the diversity of rocks. Their classification is based on genesis, mineral composition as well as structure (the way the components are formed) and texture (the way the components are distributed).
The showcases feature magmatic rocks, both deep-sea and outcrop, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.
