What distinguishes humans from plants? Is nature a refuge or a threat to man? What would life be like without us? Man has long ceased to be the centre of the world. Every action we take gradually destroys the species living around us.
The exhibition 'May this bow protect you from evil' presents a vision of reality in which man and nature are equal.
An installation composed of painting objects depicts plant-hybrids that arise in the artist's imagination as independent creatures that (unlike us) do not need support to survive.
From the artist:
Growing up in my hometown Pavilnys, located on the outskirts of Vilnius, I have always been surrounded by a wide green belt. The rhythm of our life was, and still is, closely linked to the cycles of nature and its observation. Even a tarry root or a small part of a tree, the so-called "arch", which burns best, becomes a valuable material for making a bonfire. My task as a child was to prepare the arches to light in the cooker to heat the house. A slash or a tar root evoked associations with the beginning of heat. One could speak of both physical and emotional warmth. Thus, the archwort remained a seemingly unimportant object, yet protective of my loved ones.
