The MSN will open to the public The Non-Permanent Exhibition. 4 × Collection. This will be the first presentation on this scale of the Museum's own collection, which has been systematically built up over nearly two decades. The exhibition will consist of over 150 works created between the 1950s and the present day, shown in four sections. The works will be presented in galleries on the 1st and 2nd floors of the newly opened building. The MSN's collection consists of works and documents that bear witness to the changes that have taken place in the visual arts over the past seven decades both in Poland and internationally. The collected works express the diversity of media and artistic attitudes, and illustrate the dynamics of artists' participation in social life, the circulation of information and the development of new technologies. The Museum's collections also include artistic archives and the Museum's Filmoteka - a set of films comprising several hundred titles. Visitors to the exhibition will also find significant works from the collections of other institutions and from private collections.
From the very beginning, our collection has been built on lively relationships with contemporary artists and artists, and has also reflected the debates taking place in the art community. The regular building of the collection is possible thanks to a programme of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, but equally important are the grassroots movements and experimental methods of acquiring works that have significantly influenced the shape of the MSN's collection. The first group of works in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw - shown as part of the Art More Precious Than Gold exhibition in late 2008 and early 2009 - was a gift from artists who supported the idea of creating the Museum," says Joanna Mytkowska, director of the MSN.
