Has any of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera premieres been crowned with such glowing reviews as those that followed the production of his opera Don Giovanni? What makes it still spark the imagination of musicologists today as an opera that was far ahead of its time?

He arrived in Prague, where the Salzburg maestro was to give the world an opera telling the story of the greatest of seducers, on a wave of excellent reviews after The Marriage of Figaro, but the way the Prague people received Don Giovanni exceeded all expectations. Full of malcontents, Vienna, often even waiting for Mozart to stumble, had to make do this time with the reviews that flowed abundantly from Prague.
