Djo - the musical project of actor, producer and songwriter Joe Keery, known for hit productions such as Stranger Things and Fargo - announces his long-awaited new album entitled The Crux. The album, which is the follow-up to 2022's DECIDE, which included the hit track 'End of Beginning,' will be released on 4 April via AWAL. Djo has also announced a major global tour in 2025. The Djo - Back On You Tour will include performances by Post Animal as support acts at all North American, UK and European Union shows.
The Crux album was produced by Keery in collaboration with his long-time collaborator Adam Thein. It is a work of extraordinary precision and craftsmanship. Unlike Keery's previous albums, which were intimate synth-based recordings, The Crux focuses on rich guitar parts and arrangements reminiscent of late 60s and 70s pop. It is an album full of loss and longing, but also full of wit and gratitude. The songs were written in different corners of the world, during a particularly creative period in Keery's life when he was struggling with the transience of his acting work and being cut off from friends and family. To make the album, however, Keery settled into the legendary Electric Lady studio in his new home of New York. The Crux not only showcases his ambitious approach, but also his skills as a versatile multi-instrumentalist and songwriter (all songs were written by Keery or in collaboration with Adam Thein).
The first single, 'Basic Being Basic,' uses Oberheim OB-X8 synths and a falsetto chorus, and its final verses deftly punctuate the (often online) patterns of contemporary posturing. "It's kind of a jab aimed at anyone trying to be up-to-date," says Keery.
