Depeche Mode is a phenomenon in the history of popular music. A mosaic of styles, in which pop mixes with electronica, rock or new romantic, and the symbolism hidden in music videos and lively concerts thrill fans all over the world. "Depesze" is a subculture that is also still active and strongly represented in Poland. Our Theatre has decided to honour it and explore the phenomenon of music as a communal, ecstatic and sometimes - metaphysical experience. On 24 March, the stage of the Rampa will host the premiere of the musical performance "Depesze", which skilfully combines elements of the band's work with an attempt to reflect its sociological phenomenon, and above all - the phenomenon of being a fan.
We invite everyone of all ages and musical tastes to take a journey into the interior of a dystopian Depeche City, where soulless corporations promise people a 'New Life' and the escape from reality is provided by musical rituals called 'Black Celebration', led by the star and prophet Personal Jesus. Meet Little 15, Exciter or Precious and indulge in a journey through a world of sounds, images and lyrics that will incarnate characters and places before your eyes. Immerse yourself in the night city. Become a Depesz.
What is the phenomenon of the band and, above all, its Polish fans, creating a subculture with an original language, rituals and fashion that was a breath of modernity in the grey reality of communist Poland? Does today's world still need Depesha? Or are subcultures a thing of the past? After struggling with our daily problems, do we still dream of belonging to a tribe whose religion is a leather jacket, sunglasses, dancing and songs whose lyrics everyone knows? From the 1980s to today, successive generations of Depeche Mode fans have gathered at concerts, themed parties or fan clubs. Everywhere, they celebrate the dark yet sweet music of the masters of melancholy.
Following the success of Marcin Januszkiewicz and Marta Zalewska's club recital and the fervent requests of fans, we are moving 'Depeszy' to the big stage. The show will thus gain new momentum. We are expanding it to include dancers, actors and, of course, musicians. In addition to the guitar, there will be synthesisers, piano and drums on stage. In this way, we will try to effectively convey the atmosphere of the 1980s and 1990s in particular, i.e. the decades in which the band enjoyed the greatest cult following in Poland.
Depeche Mode are still incredibly professional and one of the best bands in the world. Not only because of the music, but also because of the devotion of the fans and a certain artistic romanticism that doesn't happen in music anymore. This, too, we will try to reflect in Depeche Mode.
