The auction house Art in House is once again organising the Contemporary Classics Auction - this is the 20th edition! This time, too, you will encounter extraordinary works that have something ancient, but often also modern, and certainly unique.
The auction catalogue will open with four works in which the colour red is the leitmotif. First up are two works on horseback: Bogusław Lustyk showed synthesised riders painted divisionistically, while Krzysztof Jarocki constructed a similar composition, albeit more pointillistically. The next two paintings depict women: on Eugeniusz Gerlach's canvas with its characteristic stained-glass divisions, we see a violinist, while Joanna Sarapata painted a minimalist ballerina.
At the XX Contemporary Classics Auction, the abstract works are particularly vibrant and compelling. Look out for Edward Dwurnik's striped painting: we can surmise that the author was inspired by free dripping or action painting, in which paint is allowed to drip freely onto the ground. Great abstractionists are the Młodożeniec brothers. Stanislaw's works are seemingly more chaotic, as they contain rather irregular shapes, but the colours he uses always work together and the whole is unobvious and unique. Piotr Młodożeniec's paintings, on the other hand, are more geometrically structured and his technique is reminiscent of colour field painting, where individual planes are covered with dot-work shading, giving the works a graphic appearance.
