"ORGANATOR" is a recent favourite project of Michal Urbaniak the jazzman, internationally renowned violinist, saxophonist, composer, arranger and discoverer of young talents.
The concert of rhythmic jazz, to which we invite you to Białołęka Cultural Centre on 22 February, refers to the artist's roots. The main role is played by the Hammond organ, the sound of which Urbaniak has always loved, thus paying tribute to the memory of his friend, Wojtek Karolak. In addition to Michał Urbaniak, playing the alto and tenor saxophone, there will be Frank Parker on drums, Gabriel Niedziela on guitar and Kajetan Galas on Hammond organ.
Author of over 500 compositions, Michal Urbaniak has recorded more than 120 albums (both as a composer and as a guest). Known as a co-creator and creator of fusion music. In 1973 he moved to New York. He made a name for himself in the world by recording the album "Tutu" with the greatest jazz legend Miles Davis. He has invited and been invited to collaborate by such world jazz greats as: Quincy Jones, Billy Cobham, Stephane Grappelli, Joe Zawinul, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Kenny Garrett, George Benson , Marcus Miller, Jaco Pastorius, Toots Thielmans, Kenny Kirkland, Larry Coryell, Lenny White, Alphonze Mouzon. He is the leader, composer and arranger of his projects: "Jazz Legends", "Fusion", "Urbanator", "Urbanizer", "UrbSymphony". Winner of the Grand Prix of the Montreaux Festival for best soloist (1971). He has performed at the most important jazz festivals in the world: Newport Jazz Festival, JVC Festival, Chicago Jazz Festival, Lugano, Den Haag and others. He has given several concerts at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall and at famous world and New York jazz clubs (Blue Note, Village Vanguard, Sweet Basil). He has been awarded many times, won in foreign polls, and his name was listed in the prestigious "Down Beat" (1992) among the greatest jazz celebrities in the first place and in five categories.
Urbaniak is the world's first inventor violinist to play the five-stringed violin, built according to his own idea. He is the composer of the famous song 'Papaya' (single 1975), which was twice a worldwide hit on all charts. He has been involved with film and theatre for many years. He has written music for 25 films, such as: "Astonished", "As the Band Played On", "Dreambird", "Manhattan" by R.Rybczyński (in the USA) and "Farewell to Autumn" by M. Treliński, "Spona" by W. Szarek, " Debt" and "Big Things" by K. Krauze (Poland). He received the main awards at the Film Festival in Gdynia for the music to the films "Dług", "Farewell to Autumn" and "Eden". He was the first to introduce jazz and rap to the philharmonic as the "UrbSymphony" project (Częstochowa Philharmonic, 1995). He has recorded over 70 original albums worldwide.
In 2019, he recorded together with American stars his album dedicated to Warsaw, 'For Warsaw With Love', released on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. Since 2005, he has been developing the 'UrbanatorDays' project, a unique 'anti-training' workshop combined with a concert and jam session. In September 2022 he celebrated the 15th anniversary of the project at the Poznań International Fair.
