The heroine of 'Bajo Bongo' is Natasha Zylska. Today, more than 60 years after her disappearance from Polish stages and theatres, not everyone remembers her name. However, it is enough to hum "Dear, dear, they are flying from the sky..." and the interviewee not only finishes a verse of the popular song, but sings along with a smile. And then, almost enthusiastically, he asks about its performer. Why did Natasha Zylska give up her career so suddenly, at the height of her fame?
The characters in 'Bajo Bongo', directed by Anna Wieczur, bring us closer to her in a way that is at times humorous, at times reflective. The story is illustrated with the best-known hits from her repertoire in new arrangements by Jakub Lubowicz. These include 'Chestnuts', 'Mexicana', 'Chocolate' and the title number 'Bajo Bongo'. Although these songs were seen as frivolous during the rampant Stalinist era, Natasha Zylska herself was a lady - intelligent, witty, a little crazy and always discreet. Only now has she decided to tell us about her not-so-long life, inviting us on a musical journey to years rightly and hopefully irrevocably past.
