A fascinating prequel to the cult classic "Twin Peaks," this film offers no easy answers—only more mysteries, symbols, and puzzles. The body of underage sex worker Teresa Banks is found in the Wind River. FBI agents Chester Desmond (Chris Isaak) and Sam Stanley (Kiefer Sutherland) begin investigating among the indifferent and unhelpful residents of the town of Deer Meadow. Soon after, one of them disappears without a trace. The second half of the film follows the last seven days of Laura Palmer's (Sheryl Lee) life, as she is increasingly besieged and driven mad by the mysterious Bob. She slowly comes to the terrifying realization that her father may be behind the monster.
Unlike the humorous, crime-drama-soap-opera conventions of "Twin Peaks," "Fire Walk with Me" is remarkably dark and serious—a fact that initially turned off many critics and fans of the series. However, over time, David Lynch's mastery and imagination gained recognition, particularly thanks to the success of the third season, which, years later, rekindled the love of a new wave of viewers.
Competing for the Palme d'Or, "Fire Walk with Me" is a must-see – one of the most fascinating films of the 90s, worth watching multiple times to discover all its secrets.
