Has. Chronicles of the Imagination - Ciphers
Psychological drama, 80 min
Film description:
A dramatic letter from his son causes Tadeusz, who has been living in England since the September defeat in 1939, to return to the country. Maciek tells him about his mother unable to come to terms with the death of Jędrek, her younger son, who died during the occupation in mysterious circumstances. Maciek's stories, still living with war memories, are incomprehensible to his father. Tadeusz cannot find his place in the world of the people who were once closest to him...
After 'The Saragossa Manuscript', the director returned to a form and theme that had always been close to his heart - subtle psychological analysis. This underrated work, which polemicises with the legend of the Polish school, thanks to its form of representation - realism interwoven with symbolic visions - makes 'Ciphers' one of the most original films of Polish cinematography.
