The Street Art Festival is a nationwide and European art project. It has been organised periodically since 1993 in the public space of the city of Warsaw. It is dedicated to performing arts, mainly theatre and 'new circus', as well as performance activities. The mission of the Street Art Festival is to promote forms of artistic expression and contemporary trends in art and to create a practical opportunity for the exchange of ideas and experiences. It is an opportunity for artists to make contacts and develop future initiatives in the urban space of Warsaw. The Street Art Festival is the only event of its kind in Warsaw and a must for any theatre enthusiast. The festival promotes the idea of street performance, using public space and involving the audience. It is an open-access venue for viewers to meet art and a place for their education. Taking as its starting point the need to build the image of Warsaw as a European city of culture, open to contemporary art, the organisers focus on promoting active participation in cultural activities, allowing various audiences the widest possible access to open forms of artistic life. This serves to acquire and deepen knowledge of art in the public space.
