For his latest project, Austrian guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel has invited two outstanding musical personalities to collaborate: Australian bassist Linda May Han Oh and Lionel Loueke from Benin, Africa.
Three different musical colours, three continents, three outstanding instrumentalists come together in a concert programme that, on the one hand, impresses with its virtuosity and rhythmic power and, on the other, opens up a space where the protagonists meet in an improvised dialogue.
The three musicians are known for their jazz activities. Linda May Han Oh played bass in Pat Metheny's quartets for many years and has gained an excellent reputation as a leader of her own projects. Lionel Loueke, on the other hand, is a key member of Herbie Hancock's band and has given the guitar a unique new expression in his trio as well as his solo projects. Wolfgang Muthspiel, whose last four albums have been released on the ECM label, explores another dimension of his work in this new project.
What unites these three musicians, despite their diversity, is, among other things, the quality of sound that gives the project its title: 'Touch'. When a musician is recognisable by a single sound, purely on the basis of their sound, it can be said that they have found their own voice.
After a first phase of rehearsals and recordings in May 2023, TOUCH will be heard for the first time on European concert stages, including Jassmine, in May and June 2025.
