An original musical with premiere songs inspired by the extraordinary biography of the queen of Polish satire Stefania Grodzienska, co-founder of the Syrena Theatre.

Piplaja - this was the word used to describe budding dancers, actresses, authors and entertainers. Godzieńska herself used it and was also a piplaja when she took her first steps in interwar Warsaw theatres and literary cabarets.

The heroine of our musical was a modern woman. She treaded many career paths and refused to be pigeonholed. She was bold and independent. She broke stereotypes. She achieved the impossible and blazed trails. She came from a minority background. She refused to be overcome by prejudice, she refused to be killed by history, she survived the war and the Warsaw ghetto, she refused to be broken by authority. Her life was full of twists and turns. And she is proof that humour helps you to prevail, helps you to live even in the most difficult times.
