Dracula, with music by Wojciech Kilar and choreography by Krzysztof Pastor, has become the ballet sensation of 2018. The production was specially commissioned by West Australian Ballet and had its world premiere in September 2018 in Perth.
West Australian Ballet wanted a ballet adaptation of Bram Stoker's horror novel Dracula (1897) and its 1992 Oscar-winning screen adaptation directed by Francis Ford Coppola, with music by Wojciech Kilar. The theatre approached Krzysztof Pastor with this proposal, who in his dramaturgical concept decided not to refer exclusively to Coppola's film, however, but to show more of Wojciech Kilar's music. The production is therefore based on a carefully and precisely developed score (Michael Brett), which consists of various works by the Polish composer. Themes from The Promised Land, Leper, Chronicle of Amorous Incidents, Wherever You Are, If You Are, Jealousy and Medicine were taken from his film music portfolio. And from his output of autonomous music - excerpts from Koscielny 1909, Symphony No. 5 'Advent' and Concerto for piano and orchestra.
