A musical inspired by the fate of Stefania Grodzienska, queen of Polish satire and co-founder of the Syrena Theatre. The story of a strong woman who lived as she wished and went through life with humour. The play is set in the cabarets and revues of interwar Warsaw, in the occupied capital and in the artistic salons of the post-war period.
'Piplaja' is not a classic biography. More than the successive events in Grodzenska's life, the creators are interested in the heroine herself: a modern woman who followed many career paths and did not allow herself to be pigeonholed. She was courageous and independent. She broke stereotypes. She achieved the impossible and blazed trails for the next generation of Polish women. She came from a minority background, did not let herself be overcome by prejudice, did not let history kill her, survived the war and the Warsaw ghetto, and did not let herself be broken by authority. Her life was full of twists and turns. And she is proof that humour helps to live with dignity even in the most difficult times.
