Poisons
Chicuta, ricin, cyanide, botulism. Poisons are as old as the world! Although our ancestors used them mainly for unholy purposes, the toxins contained in animal venoms and poisonous plants can not only take but also save lives.

Thanks to advances in technology, scientists are precisely studying these remarkable substances and creating new drugs. Substances that block the nervous system are used in painkillers and blood-thinning compounds are used in cardiology. Thanks to a certain lizard (Heloderma suspectum), we have preparations to help treat type two diabetes, and peptides from the venom of the Asian scorpion show anti-cancer properties and could soon be incorporated into drugs.

During the evening you will learn about the venomous animals (snakes, lizards, spiders) that live in our temporary exhibition "Poisons. Nature's superpowers", as well as plants, which will be talked about by invited experts.
