The story of rituals, customs and festive objects of various traditions and religious rites in Poland and Europe is told over an area of more than 850 m using thousands of exhibits. The extremely modern exhibition is reminiscent of contemporary shopping malls - bright, heavily lit interiors, decorated mannequins behind glass, drawers full of accessories and ornaments. It thus puts the traditionally perceived 'folklore' in a new light.
The key to Celebration Time is the folk 'costume', that is, the particular garment worn for any kind of celebration, with which dance, music and rituals are linked. Hence, the exhibition presents its diversity through 100 festive garments from Poland and Europe and artefacts related to the rituals. Drawers full of jewellery, krajekas and parzenica show the diversity of Polish and European traditions, while the side rooms show festive interior decoration related also to the traditions of religious minorities.
