The Collection of Contemporary Sculpture was separated from the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw and transferred to Królikarnia in 2001. Separated from other art genres, it allows us to clearly trace the changing status of sculpture as an object, performance element or installation in the 20th century. It consists of 1,417 objects, ranging from Henryk Kuna's classicist sculptures, through metal avant-garde spatial form projects that stood in Elbląg in 1965, Alina Szapocznikow's experimental works, Henryk Stażewski's hand-painted slippers, to Iza Tarasewicz's conceptual work created in 2013 here at the Królikarnia.

The collection is heterogeneous, bringing together works by artists unknown from the perspective of contemporary written art history and names emblematic of it: Edward Wittig, Katarzyna Kobro, Jerzy Jarnuszkiewicz, Barbara Zbrożyna, Władysław Hasior, Jerzy Bereś, Maria Pinińska-Bereś, Krzysztof Bednarski, the Kijewski/Kocur duo, Joanna Rajkowska, Agnieszka Polska. However, if one were to detach oneself from the names and look at the collection as part of a broad and cross-genre story about art - one will most clearly see the realism of the inter-war period and the entrenched socialist realism of the 1950s, post-war sculptures with organic abstract forms, and avant-garde realisations in metal. Composed of purchases and donations from individuals, the collection is constantly growing. It accepts works that are already historical as well as those created today, which, from the perspective of today's blurring of the boundaries between genres in art, reflect on the status and function of sculpture, and those that inspiringly engage in institutional criticism.
