"Women of Independence" is a board exhibition prepared by the Polish History Museum to mark the 100th anniversary of Poland's regaining independence.
The aim of the exhibition is to show the participation of women in the struggle for Poland's independence during the Partitions of Poland and to link this issue to the widely understood emancipation of women in the Polish lands, as well as to show the role of women during World War I and World War II, in the inter-war years and in the democratic opposition during the People's Republic of Poland.
At the same time, the story of the activity and successes of Polish women becomes a pretext for familiarising the viewer with the history of Poland from the fall of the Commonwealth at the end of the 18th century to the rise of Solidarity and the collapse of communist rule. The exhibition presents profiles of several dozen women who played a great role in the history of the formation of the Polish nation and Polish identity. Working in various fields - politics, science, education, culture, the economy and the military - they changed the fate of local communities and society as a whole.
