This is another year that the Museum of Caricature is hosting an international exhibition on satirical cartooning.
SATYRYKON is Poland's biggest event devoted to satirical drawing, organised continuously for 47 years, which at the same time keeps its finger on the pulse of new trends. It is a competition open to cartoonists, graphic artists, painters, sculptors, photographers and poster artists.
This year, entries were judged in two categories: ATRAPA (this year's theme) and, traditionally, JOKE and SATIR. After viewing 2783 works by 836 authors from 61 countries around the world, the jury qualified 172 works for the post-competition exhibition. The most important trophy - the Grand Prix of Satyrykon 2024 to Paweł Kuczyński for his work 'The Wall'.
We saw a lot of very good work and it was difficult to choose between the best. It is true that the Grand Prix is not at all to be laughed at. Because also the situation we are in at the moment in the world is not funny at all. But we also have a lot of funny works among the award winners. People who come to see the exhibition in June will also be able to laugh. The themes are very universal: they are not only about war and religion, but also, for example, man's approach to his own and the planet's future. This Satyrykon was characterised by great diversity.- assesses chairman Agim Sulaj.
