Lecture "On animals and people in Piast Poland. A perspective of archaeozoology"

We would like to invite you to the Museum of Polish History for an open lecture 'On Animals and People in Piast Poland. A perspective on archaeozoology", which will be delivered by Prof. Daniel Makowiecki. The event accompanies the Polish History Museum's new temporary exhibition entitled. "1025: The Birth of the Kingdom".

About the lecture
"On animals and people in Piast Poland.
An archaeozoology perspective"
The heroes of the temporary exhibition at the Polish History Museum "1025. The Birth of the Kingdom" are not only people. The exhibition also presents the story of animals - wild and farmed - that inhabited the lands under the rule of the Piasts. Knowledge of their importance for the daily life and economy of the first kingdom is uncovered by archaeozoologists, who analyse bones and objects found during excavations. Professor Daniel Makowiecki's lecture is an opportunity to learn about their working methods, as well as to look at the history of early medieval Poland from a different, lesser-known perspective.

About the leader
Prof. Daniel Makowiecki works at the Department of Environmental Archaeology and Human Paleoecology of the Institute of Archaeology, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. His research interests include archaeology and animal-human-environment relations in prehistory, the Middle Ages and modern times. Professor Makowiecki is the author of over 300 publications, including 5 books. He has dealt, among other things, with the history of fish and fishing, the basics of animal management in fortresses or the history and significance of the horse in early medieval Poland.
