Urzecze Culture Fair 2025

Urzecze Culture Fair 2025

You are cordially invited to the Urzecze Culture Fair 2025

The fair is an ideal opportunity to learn about the history and folk culture of the Vistula Urzecze microregion, disappearing professions, crafts, art, dances, beautiful 'Wilanów' costumes, old songs and chants, and to taste unique Urzecze delicacies such as sytocha or siuforek.

The fair will take place in the heart of Konstancin-Jeziorna, in the Spa Park. Among the many attractions for children and adults there will be, among others, rides in traditional boats on the Jeziorka River. There will also be regional and folk music presented on stage by local and invited artists, including Powsinianie, URZECZEni, Sołtysi, Łurzycanki, Wilanowska Brass Band and children from Konstancin schools.
The concert will culminate with a performance by the folk band WoWaKin. The musicians draw their repertoire from the living transmission, travelling to the countryside and learning from an older generation of musicians and singers.

During the Fair it will be possible to visit the binduga - a reconstructed rafting habitat with smoking cauldrons full of bewitching delicacies. There will be workshops and demonstrations of folk cut-outs, carpentry, wickerwork and toy-making workshops.

The youngest participants of the event will be able to watch an open-air performance entitled "A Lesson about Poland, or a Fairy Tale about the Vistula River, the Legend of the Dragon of Wawel, and Wars and Sawa" by the Mariusz Orzełek Puppet Theatre. As every year, the fair will feature a wide range of regional products, local delicacies and unique handicrafts.

PROGRAMME
12.00 - Performances by folk groups
16.00 - Spectacle for children by the Teatr pod Orzełkiem "Lesson about Poland - a fairy tale about the Vistula River, a legend about the Dragon of Wawel and about Wars and Sawa".

Professor Hilary Szczebrzeszyński invites young audiences to a lesson on Poland told through the legends of the Vistula River. Theatrical magic transforms the professor into a puppet of little Hilus, who fishes the crown of the Queen of the Vistula out of the river and, like the audience, is presented with stories about the Vistula's towns and cities. With the help of stained-glass puppets, the actors act out the legend of the Wawel Dragon from Krakow and the story of the creation of Warsaw - the legend of Wars and Sawa. The performance will take children to Barania Góra, the birthplace of Poland's largest river, from where a flowing tale will begin in the ceremonial company of the Queen of Polish Rivers.

18.00 - Concert of the band WoWaKin
The ensemble has been exploring and performing Polish folk music for years. The ensemble specialises in traditional folk sounds such as polkas, mazurkas, obereks, waltzes and foxtrots, presenting music from the Radom, Kielce and Sanniki regions. Their repertoire is based on authentic folk messages, which the musicians discover through collaboration with veterans of rural music. The band travels around the Polish countryside, learning from the older generation of musicians and singers, making their performances a true immersion in tradition. WoWaKin has received widespread acclaim, and in 2023 their music was featured in the Netflix series '1670'.
