Qigong in the museum - health-promoting exercises for everyone

We learn about art through contemplation and experience. Similarly, we delve into the conscious movement of the body - qigong - finding in it solace for mind and body. With this in mind, with the Dantian Foundation, we invite you to a series of open classes entitled 'Qigong in the museum - health-promoting exercises for everyone'.

Qigong (pronunciation: czi gong) is a form of exercise dating back to antiquity that combines mind and body training. It consists of a combination of mindful movements, a meditative state of mind and breathing techniques.

The word 'qigong' is derived from the Chinese words: "qi", which refers to the energy found in everything (the universal life force), and "gong", which means acquired skill. Therefore, qigong translates as 'working with energy and developing skill'. Practically, qigong works by gathering and using energy to enhance one's own health, wellbeing and vitality.

The classes are open and accessible to all. Qigong is an excellent form of physical activity for people of all ages and fitness levels and is a highly modifiable, flexible exercise.

What are the benefits of qigong?
Qigong has recently become very popular around the world because of the health benefits it gives to practitioners: it can give something different to everyone, depending on the purpose for which the exercises are done. Most commonly, practitioners speak of feeling calm and tranquil, relief from pains and a sense of increased energy and vitality. Moving along with even breathing helps to circulate the blood and massage the internal organs, and supports the functioning of the circulatory and immune systems. As an exercise that aligns awareness and attention with movement, qigong has great mental, emotional and physical benefits.

How can we use qigong exercises?

-More relaxation, less stress
The intrinsic nature of qigong exercises has a profound effect on calming the mind. The stress-reducing and relaxing nature of the exercises leads to improved sleep, relieves neck and shoulder pain and lowers blood pressure. It also helps to alleviate depression and anxiety. Increased relaxation and sleep result in increased energy, helping to combat fatigue and burnout. Inner anxiety is reduced and confidence is increased.

In everyday life, we encounter various scenarios that can cause stress. The weekly form of classes in the Lorentz Courtyard is a great opportunity to take care of calming down. It is amazing what just one hour of exercise can do.

-Physical fitness
The opposites characteristic of qigong - moderate exertion and active relaxation build a strong physical foundation. Repetition of simple postures and movements is a good way to strengthen muscles, and the unique use of static postures also helps to strengthen structural muscles, balance and flexibility.

It is a method of discovering the inspiring depths of the human need for movement.
-Living more
Qigong as a form of conscious movement supports our inner sensitivity and helps to open our mind and heart to the world. It is ideal to combine training in the Lorentz Courtyard with a visit to the exhibitions and learning about the collections in the Main Building of the National Museum in Warsaw.
