Permanent exhibition "Museum Station"

Permanent exhibition "Museum Station"

The permanent exhibition is housed in three exhibition halls and in the open-air museum outside the Station building.

The first room contains a collection showing, in chronological order, the history of railways in the world and in Poland - the beginnings of rail transport and the successive stages of its continuous modernisation as a result of technical progress. The exhibition devoted to railways in Poland presents in detail the successive periods related to the establishment of rail transport and its expansion, beginning with the creation of the first lines on Polish land occupied by the three partitioning powers, with particular emphasis on the Warsaw-Vienna Railway (opened in 1845).

The exhibition continues in the second exhibition room. A rich part of the collection in this room consists of commemorative and historical exhibits; archives (e.g.: personal documents of railwaymen, timetables, railway tickets, engine driver's patents and Polish and foreign freight lists); equipment.

The third and smallest exhibition room houses a reproduction of the Government Reception Lounge, opened at Warsaw Central Station in 1955 in connection with the World Youth Festival in the capital. It served national and foreign government delegations for many years.

The open-air Museum Station is the largest collection of valuable rail vehicles in Poland gathered in one place. It numbers 50 units, built in different periods of railway history. A track layout is used to present them.
