NaMu - Korean Traditional Music (a collaboration with the Korean Cultural Center).
Performers:
- Aram Lee - daegeum (Korean bamboo flute), yanggeum (Korean dulcimer),
- Minwang Hwang - janggu (Korean hourglass drum), percussion, voice,
- Si Young Sung - piri (Korean flute with double reed),
- Inhwan Choi - double bass, bass guitar.
The NaMu ensemble is one of the most exciting groups on the Korean music scene, specialising in modern interpretations of traditional music. Each member of NaMu is an accomplished soloist who combines deep roots in Korea's classical tradition with experience in jazz, classical and electronic music.
Using traditional instruments - such as daegeum, piri, yanggeum and janggu - the artists create mesmerising new sounds that combine the heritage of their ancestors with the rhythms of the present day.
NaMu impresses with its originality and freshness, and their concerts are an extraordinary journey through the sounds of the Far East - from the subtle melodies of the bamboo flute to the expressive rhythms of traditional drums.
